My Family and I are a 25-year resident of Carmel, and proud to be running for City Council. I’m a plant biotechnologist with a Ph.D. in plant genetics contributing to the Agricultural industry to feed the ever over populated world. My wife, Fay, and I are the former owners of the Café Carmel on Ocean Avenue; I served as a Commissioner and Chair of the Forest and Beach Commission. Carmel-By-The-Sea is declared as a residential city and we need to adhere to our values, the tenor and intent of its planning guidelines Carmel General Plan written in 1929. Although Covid-19 has overwhelmed our local community, we must not lose sight of funding for public safety and awareness, ambulance response time, fire department, wildfire prevention, and the addition of surveillance cameras in our business district to protect our residents and visitors. Our urban forest is in gradual demise. We are losing trees in staggering numbers; as a community, we must create a task force and budget for a sustainable long-term reforestation plan. As a long-term resident, I care passionately about ensuring that Carmel remains the treasure it is, and since I am a “doer,” I will work tirelessly to that end, while always listening to my constituents and making sound decisions to the best of my ability. Finally, our Village needs a council member that brings leadership and DOES important things rather than just TALKS about them.
